Aston Martin V12 Vantage S Roadster: Roof Cut Off, Massive V12 Kept
Aston Martin V8 Vantage is nearly a decade old, but the automaker keeps on producing more powerful versions in its attempt to gain the enthusiasts’ appreciation. Following Aston Martin’s latest reveals, meet the Roadster version of the automaker’s most driver-focused model, the V12 Vantage S. Mechanically identical to the Coupe, the new V12 Vantage S Roadster packs the brand’s 565 hp 6.0-liter V12 engine and appears as their fastest and most powerful Roadster to date. While the flagship Vanquish Volante runs to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds and hits 183 mph, the new Roadster is capable of 201 mph and able to accelerate to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds.
We’ve already seen that burning turn of speed in the Coupe version and just like with the Coupe, motorsport-inspired technology abounds in the Roadster version. The engine has CNC-machined combustion chambers and hollow camshafts, unburdened of 44 pounds of excess weight, also mated to Sportshift III seven-speed sequential gearbox. The upgrades over the standard car consist of carbon ceramic brake discs all round, three selectable driving modes that adjust the stiffness of the dampers (Normal, Sport, Track), an adaptive damping system.
Exterior wise, the new features on the V12 Vantage S Roadster include: a ventilated hood, carbon fiber components and black (or titanium silver) accents, a new aggressive grille and flared wheel arches. Since the noise is one of the most iconic part of any V12 Aston, it hasn’t been neglected in the new model as well. The V12 Vantage S Roadster boasts a lightweight exhaust system taken from the One-77 hypercar’s. Expect the new V12 Vantage to hit the showrooms in autumn 2014!
